[07:26.17]Our truth is painted across the sky [07:32.78]In our reflection, we learn to fly [07:40.17]No hand to hold us [07:44.14]No one to save us from tomorrow [07:51.82] [07:58.56]Sailing away, beyond the reach of anyone [08:06.08]Far beyond the dreams of everyone [08:13.58]No light to follow [08:18.75]A shot in the dark [08:22.64]Does anybody know? [08:28.47]Sailing away, beyond the reach of anyone [08:34.79]Far beyond the dreams of everyone [08:43.07]High from the heavens [08:47.83]I can't see the pain [08:52.00]Does anybody care? [08:57.73] [09:02.27]Think for a moment of all the lives [09:09.17]Stripped of their essence before their time [09:16.17]We stand to conquer [09:19.43]But is there nothing left tomorrow? [09:27.17] [09:35.47]I'm sailing away, beyond the reach of anyone [09:39.73]Far beyond the dreams of everyone [09:47.96]There's no light to follow [09:54.36]A shot in the dark [09:58.43]Does anybody know? [10:04.21]Sailing away, beyond the reach of anyone [10:11.47]Far beyond the dreams of everyone [10:19.07]High from the heavens [10:23.75]I can't see the pain [10:27.87]Does anybody care? [10:33.41] [11:59.20][Neil Degrasse Tyson:] [12:09.20]We have one collective hope: The Earth. [12:13.54]And yet uncounted people remain homeless. [12:16.60]Famine and calamity abound. [12:19.18]Sufferers hurl themselves into the arms of war. [12:23.10]People kill and get killed in the name of someone else's concept of God. [12:29.87]Dare we admit that our thoughts and behaviors spring from a belief that the world revolves around us? [12:39.01]Each fabricated conflict, self murdering bomb, vanished airplane, [12:45.15]Every fictionalized dictator, biased partisan and wayward son [12:51.00]Are part of the curtains of society's racial, ethnic, religious, national and cultural conflicts? [12:59.59]And you find the human ego turning the knobs and pulling the levers. [13:05.55]When I track the orbits of asteroids, comets, and planets, [13:13.49]Each one a pirouetting dancer in a cosmic ballet, choreographed by the forces of gravity, [13:20.52]I see beyond the plight of humans. I see a universe ever expanding [13:26.26]With its galaxies embedded within the ever-stretching, four-dimensional fabric of space and time. [13:32.90]However big our world is — in our hearts, our minds, in our out-sized atlases? [13:40.34]The universe is even bigger. [13:47.21]There are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the world's beaches. [13:54.19]More stars in the universe than seconds of time that have passed since Earth formed. [14:00.80]More stars than words and sounds ever uttered by all humans who have ever lived. [14:08.79]The day we cease exploration of the cosmos is the day we threaten the continuance of our species. [14:18.59]In that bleak world, arms-bearing, resource-hungry people and nations [14:24.99]Would be prone to act on their low contracted prejudices, [14:29.32]And would have seen the last gasp of human enlightenment — [14:34.37]Until the rise of a visionary new culture once again embraces the cosmic perspective; [14:41.08]A perspective in which we are one, fitting neither above, nor below, but within. [14:56.62]
